Found this on teh intartoobs, and I'm curious...

Growing and maintaining an open-source community Is there anything mentioned there that Dreamwidth doesn't do, and that might help? He doesn't mention misogyny by name, but a number of his points include it implicitly. What do you make of that approach? (also, can someone remove the "interview" tag? It's't fix it) a misclick, and I can

Um, I can delete the tag from the display, hit 'save changes', and it loads back to here but the tag is still there and it's not telling me I can't remove tags. I'm not a mod, but there probably ought to be something telling me what I've told it to hasn't happened. Bug or suggestion?

I'd say suggestions because it would probably be good to talk about how best to solve the tag-usability-by-people-without-full-privs issue--ideas would be good on that.

K, I'll do something when I'm next free to write stuff up.

On the article itself, I think the idea of having a web interface for the IRC channel might be a good thing. When Denise asked me, I installed an IRC client. I've booted it up, um, twice, since then? For some of us, IRC just isn't something we use, at all, and for someone that isn't inclined to just install stuff to see what it does, it might be even more offputting.

Some stuff in there is beyond my knowledge, but it does give some good pointers for interpersonal stuff, which will likely help.

There actually is a web interface:

http://webchat.freenode.net/

So maybe we could make a better guide to using the web interface for it?

I didn't know it was there. Ergo we need a better guide ;-)

As a start, I've linked the webchat links for #dreamwidth and #dreamwidth-dev off the IRC wiki page.

Oooo very oooo! I was thinking of volunteering for something, maybe spamcatching, last year but was put off (apart from how my time management sucks) by the IRC thing. I just got a whole lot of other stuff-to-do dumped on me but I'll want to find this again ... *bookmarks*

Also check into [site community profile] dw_volunteers if you haven't already, which is designed to make it so there's a central socialization place outside of IRC.
