Well, everything will still go to the inbox--it's just that some things could be marked as automatically read.

The reason the inbox came into existence is because there can be SO many problems that cause notifications to just drop from going to someone's email. Email providers can randomly block us, etc, etc, etc. The inbox makes sure that you still can know what is going on even if that is happening.
